Black Stars captain Andre Ayew will miss the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier against Rwanda slated for September 3 in Accra, Ghana.
The 26-year old forward, who signed for English Premier League side West Ham United, for a club record £20.5m from Swansea City, got injured 35 minutes into his debut for the London club in the 2-1 defeat by Chelsea on Monday.
The player, who was expected to lead the Black Stars against Amavubi, is reported to be out for up to four months after surgery on his injured quadriceps. Rwanda lost to Ghana in their first leg 1-0 thanks to a late free-kick by midfielder Bubarak Wakaso at Amahoro National Stadium.
Rwanda’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations ended following a 3-2 home defeat to the Mambas of Mozambique in June.
The Black Stars lead Group H with 13 points, and have already booked their ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations finals tournament, which will be staged in Gabon.
