RUHANGO — Police and residents of Karama village, in Mbuye Sector yesterday recovered a teenage body from a pit latrine, after a three year search.

Antoine Tuyisenge, was allegedly murdered in October, 2006 by his cousin brother, Dieudonne Habimana, 26, over family property.

According to relatives, Tuyisenge had visited the area to get his share of land never to be seen again and none of his relatives could trace his whereabouts.

"After Tuyisenge’s disappearance everybody lost hope and Habimana kept insisting that he would give out the land only if the boy reappeared…yet he was aware of his death,” said Erona Mukeshimana, a relative.

Shocked residents looked in disbelief, as police officials and relatives exhumed the body from a 2-metre pit latrine. Residents, most of them elderly, said that the act was a shame on the community and the blood of the deceased would haunt the area until the whole truth on his death is revealed.

Meanwhile, Police at Ruhango confirmed that three suspects including, Habimana have since been arrested in connection with the murder.

Police identified the other suspects as Vincent Barabesha, and Jean Dusabemungu.

Habimana, the prime suspect, allegedly killed his young brother because he had claimed an equal share of their late father’s property.

Other residents have claimed that Vincent Barabesha and another resident only identified as Apollinaire, were recently involved in burning remains of genocide victims in the area.
