Editor, RE: "What’s in a name?” (The New Times, August 15).

I’m on the same page as Gatete Ruhumuriza Nyiringabo. This business of the so called Christian/first names is a subtle ‘fix’ in favour of the aggressor/coloniser, covertly biasing the unwitting African against his true identity as a melanated well crafted self.

In my backyard you come across towering forefathers with strong all-African names littered all over the place: Mayanja Nkanji, Kintu Musoke, Bidandi Ssali, Zzimula Mugwanya, Kafumbe Mukasa et al.

I am inclined to think these great statesmen hail from enlightened African backgrounds, hence their choice of name. My moniker (Ggwanga Mujje) lends credence to a similar school of thought.
