The 2016 Tusker Malt Uganda Amateur Open took a new twist as the defending champion, Ronald Otile put up a master class performance to take the lead on Day 2 of the Open on Thursday at the at the Kitante par-72 course in Kampala.
Otile, who had ended the previous day with a score of 74 and in 4th place overall, wasted no time when he teed off for round two of the Open. Looking like a man in his comfort zone, Otile led his pack from start to end and shot a 3 under par 69 to become the overall leader of the Open.
The 21-year-old goes into Day 3 on Friday, five shots ahead of day one leader, Adolf Muhumuza, who had a forgettable front nine to end the day 5-over par 77.
Ronald Rugumayo recovered from a 78 on day one to post yesterday’s second best score of 1-under par 72 for 149.
Joint first round leader with Muhumuza with a 1-under, Joseph Cwinyaai, endured an untold collapse, bogeying 10 holes. His four birdies on 1, 8, 12 and 13 only helped to tie with three others in third on the leaderboard.
Teeing off last, Muhumuza, Otile and Zambian Aaron Simfukwe all struggled early as they bogeyed the par-4 hole two.
Rwandan Alloys Nsabimana sits in 8th place with a total score of 152, nine shots off the pace after his return of 78 on Day 2—he scored 74 in the first round on Wednesday.
