Kitante Golf Course in Kampala was the scene for an allure of class, excitement and great shots as over 100 amateur golfers teed off for this year’s Tusker Malt Uganda Open on Wednesday. The tournament was officially teed off by the Uganda Breweries Marketing Director, Juliana Kaggwa.

Kitante Golf Course in Kampala was the scene for an allure of class, excitement and great shots as over 100 amateur golfers teed off for this year’s Tusker Malt Uganda Open on Wednesday.
The tournament was officially teed off by the Uganda Breweries Marketing Director, Juliana Kaggwa.
Starting off the tournament were defending champion Ronald Otile, Adolf Muhumuza, Zambia’s number one star golfer Aaron Simfukwe and Kenya’s Mudanyi Edwin. The four teed off at Hole One and moved to set the pace for the rest of the pack on day one.
Speaking before the tee off, an enthusiastic Kaggwa said; "We have been here before. This time it will even be more challenging for the players because of the vast amount of talent that is taking part in this Open.”
The amateurs’ tournament for the Tusker Malt Uganda Open is set to take place for the next three days as the players tussle it out for the ultimate trophy and bragging rights.
Although faced with some of the best players in the region, Uganda’s Adolf Muhumuza held off the rest of the group as he shot 71, 1-under par to finish day one at the top of leaderboard.
He was followed by Samuel Kato on 73 and Kenya’s Alfred Nadwa is tied with defending champion in both categories, Ronald Otile on 74, in third place.
Uganda Breweries Limited, through its flagship premium beer Tusker Malt Lager, are title sponsors for the prestigious golf tournament for the 6th year in a row.
Tusker Malt Lager moved to augment its commitment to the game of Golf by further increasing its cash sponsorship from UGX 200 million to UGX 230 million.
An additional UGX 270 million shillings as noncash sponsorship has also been injected into the tournament, taking the total sponsorship kit up to UGX 500 million shillings.
Rwanda’s Jules Mutesa will compete in the professionals’ category while a total of 10 Rwandan players are competing in the amateurs’ category.
The 10 include; Stephen Katwiremu, Innocent Rutamu, Han Kai, Francois Habimana, Patrick Mukiza, James Ndikumana, Alloys Nsabimana, Joseph Semwaga, Stephen Rwabika and Anthony Olwit.
