Andrew ‘Desh’ Kananura, a well-known Ugandan rally driver has announced his withdrawal from this year’s Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally due to mechanical difficulties with his car.

On his Facebook account, the driver, who finished 5th last year confirmed that: "It is with a lot of pain to say we shall not be participating in the Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda this year.” 

"We broke the front lower wishborn on a drop and that spelt the end of our rally, now that that is gone! We would rather concentrate on Uganda, sorry to disappoint but next year,” he added.

The Mitsubishi driver suffered the mechanical problems during the recently held Kabalega Rally that ended his plans of taking part in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, which is the fifth round on the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) calendar.

A part from Kananura, Rwandan rally enthusiasts will also miss the entertainment from Elefter Mitraros –Paganin Paolo and Davite Giancarlo.

It is reported that veteran driver, Mitraros, who finished 7th last year, is planning to retire from the sport, while the ‘Omelette’ driver, Giancarlo is serving a one-year ban from the sport by the Rwanda Automobile Club, the rally organizers.
