Nathan Byukusenge is one of the two cyclists who will represent Rwanda at the Olympic Games slated for August 5-21 in Rio de Jeneiro in Brazil.

The 36-year-old, who rides for local side Benediction Club and Team Rwanda, qualified after impressing in the African Continental Mountain Bike Championships held in Musanze in May last year.

The New Times recently shadowed him as he intensified on his preparations in his home area of Kamonyi District.

We also had an opportunity to have an interview, where he shares his determination to impress at the Rio games and his personal experience during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Besides Byukusenge; other Rwandans slated for Rio Olympics are Adrien Niyonshuti (road racing) others are athletes Salome Nyirarukundo (10,000m category) and Claudette Mukasakindi and Ambroise Uwiragiye (full marathon).

The Rwandan delegation to Rio will also include paralympian Hermas Muvunyi, a middle-distance runner and the national women sitting volleyball team.

Byukusenge will leave Rwanda for Brazil on August 14.
