The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, has told officers within the justice sector to come up with the most appropriate mechanisms that would facilitate them improve on the services they give to the public.

The Police chief made the remarks, yesterday, at a one-day retreat of 270 officials from the justice sector, among them District Judicial Police Officers (DJPO) from all the 30 districts, and representatives of the Rwanda Bar Association and Rwanda Correctional Services.

"It’s the first time all these institutions are coming together with an aim of improving service delivery. Remember, Rwandans expect fair justice, that’s why you should find ways of collaborating to ensure you provide them with the best services possible,” said IGP Gasana said at the retreat held at National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.

He particularly told the police officers that fair justice starts with how they compile case files and urged them to ensure they conduct thorough investigations that would enrich dossiers, which in the end, would facilitate the courts to deliver fair rulings.

"As people dealing in security and justice, we need to always collaborate in countering emerging security threats like terrorism, radicalisation and human trafficking that the world is facing today; our success lies in enriching ourselves with latest skills,” Gasana said.

The retreat was organised by Legal Aid Forum (LAF) and according to its executive director, Andrews Kananga, the Forum found it necessary to bring together all institutions dealing with justice related matters to share experiences and best practices on how to serve Rwandans better.

"We are normally challenged with how we share information among ourselves.’’

He thanked Rwanda National Police for its continued effort toward creating partnerships with other institutions to better serve Rwandans.
