World Sitball Championship
Finals: BSG 28-20 Baden
Third place play offs: Rwanda A 23-21 Switzerland

German team Emmelshausen (BSG) retained the World Sitball Championship which ended on Saturday at Amahoro stadium, Kigali, Rwanda.

BSG defeated Baden 28-20 in an all Germany final to successfully defend the title they won two years ago in Kigali.

Just like in 2006, Rwanda who fielded two teams could only settle for a bronze medal after beating Switzerland 23-21 in a close contest.

It was sweet revenge for the hosts who had lost to the Swiss side (21-22) earlier on.

En route the championship triumph, BSG won all its fixtures. At the end of the two-day championship, The National Paralympics Committee (NPC) for Rwanda, the official organizers presented accolades to the top performing teams and players.

In the players’ category, BSG’s Halger Voll took the best player award, DR. Congo’s Jean Kabala won the best blocker accolade, BSG’s Christ Volfgang took the best attacker’s award while Baden’s Marcel Wolfgang took the best defender’s accolade.

The Fair play accolade went Rwanda’s string side (Rwanda B).
The final was graced by the Germany ambassador to Rwanda, Christian Clages, the Switzerland ambassador to Rwanda, Alexis Lautenberg and Member of Parliament for the disabled Claver Rwaka among others.

The two-day world event attracted eight teams; BSG, Baden, Switzerland, Uganda, Burundi, DR Congo and two sides from Rwanda (Rwanda A and Rwanda B).

Uganda will host the 2010 edition.
