University of Kibungo (UNIK) volleyball club will be looking to add the KAVC Memorial tournament and Carre d’As to the league title which they have already won as they seek to complete a treble of trophies this season.
After guiding his side to their second national volleyball league title, coach Dominique Ntawangundi now wants to do the same in the Kampala tournament, for which the two-time league champions are the current holders.
UNIK have started intensive training ahead of the regional tournament which is slated for August 6-7 at Lugogo indoor stadium in the Ugandan capital, while Carre d’Ass, a competition that attracts top four teams in the local league, is set for August 21-22 at Amahoro indoor stadium in Kigali.
"What is important now is the next competitions, winning them would be an excellent way to round off what would be a great season for us. All the players are looking forward to the two competitions, we want to win them,” Ntawangundi told Times Sport.
"Our target this season is to win three trophies and we believe that we can achieve it,” he said.
But he added, "We have to work hard ahead of the tournaments in order to give ourselves a good chance.”
UNIK also won the competition in 2013.
Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are the defending champions in the women’s category, with the tax collectors having also won the tournament in 2014.
