Tina Uwase, an aspiring fashion model has set her eyes on winning the Top Model Africa competition, which started on July 26 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

At the end of the competition on August 1, Uwase hopes, she will be the lucky winner.  Under the theme: Reality Series, the competition will showcase all fields of modeling and an overall winner will be crowned as the Top Model Africa face.

In a phone interview, yesterday, Uwase told The New Times that her hope is to win and make the country proud.  Uwase said she is ready and prepared to lift the crown and has been training hard for the past few months.

"I have done intensive rehearsals to perfect my catwalk movements and facial expression. I’m also very careful about my diet in order to maintain my figure,” she said.

The 20-year-old model is participating for the first time, in the competition that will feature contestants from several African countries.

Top Model Africa is a reality television show.  It documents a competition in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of Africa's Next Top Model and a chance to start a career in the modeling industry.

The Top Model Africa title comes with prize money worth US$5,000 (about Rwf4m). Other than the overall Top Model Africa winner, there will be prizes for the first runner-up and second runner-up, as well as the top body and top face models.

The gala night modeling categories will include the beach attire (white bikini/two piece), African-inspired masquerade with colours of choice and African-inspired evening dress with stage effects.

The pre-event programme includes top model photography contest, top model cultural night, top model hair competition and top model make-up contest.

The aim of the event is to enable the models to get more exposure in modeling and to showcase the continent’s values and dreams of young African models.
