Lycee de Kigali senior secondary school was yesterday crowned this year’s Inter-school’s cricket champions after defeating Groupe Scolaire Kinihira at Kicukiro cricket ground.

Kinihira won the toss and opted to bowl first, restricting LDK to 110 runs with 8 wickets in 15 overs. In response, Kinihira only managed 65 runs with 10 wickets in 15 overs to lose the game by 45 runs.

"We have lost the game, but I am very happy with the way we have performed, this being our first competition since cricket was introduced in Rwanda,” said Kinihira Captain Iyamuremye Manasseh.

However, Groupe Scolaire Kinihira girl’s team emerged as the winners of this year’s Inter-schools competition in the girls category after defeating defending champions, Group Scolaire Ndera.

"We have dominated this competition for the last four years, and we hope to continue even in years to come,” LDK skipper Derrick Rwagitare said.

Over 300 students participated in the one-week tournament which attracted 16 schools.

Rwanda Cricket Association president Charles Haba thanked the schools for turning up in big numbers and called upon players to continue working hard and grow into international cricket players.
