Editor,

RE: "Senators want tourist sites better managed” (The New Times, July 21).

Tourism is today the highest foreign exchange earner for the country, with figures showing a marked rise from $131 million in 2006 to $318 million in 2015, as reported in the article.

But that should not lead to complacency, nor should it result in ignoring the very vital religious tourist site of Kibeho.

The Rwanda Tourism website makes no mention whatsoever of the holy land of Kibeho. History should be documented for local tourist sites and made available to visitors.

Kibeho has a rich history of its own hand, a true story to tell both domestic and international visitors. Why are we relegating this religious tourist site to the background?

As many as 46 tourists from India will be visiting Remarkable Rwanda from September 10-13, and will specifically be on a pilgrimage to Kibeho.

This will be the single largest group of tourists from Incredible India to Remarkable Rwanda. And so, this does send a strong message about the importance of Kibeho.
