Rwanda National Police, yesterday, unveiled a state-of-the-art facility in Huye District, worth Rwf680 million that will serve as the Southern Region Police Headquarters.

The Minister for Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, presided over the inauguration event.

It was also graced by the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana, the Governor of Southern Province, Alphonse Munyentwari, among other officials.

The new facility, which has 37 office rooms, was constructed in a space of 12 months, on a 6,727 square metre piece of land.

It has two conference halls, a police station with two self-contained holding cells for male and female suspects and a state-of-the-art IT interview room.

It will also host Huye District Police Unit (DPU) and Ngoma Police Station.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Harerimana pointed out that the structure was part of a broader plan to make the force more efficient.

"We thank all our stakeholders and partners who contributed to the construction of this building. It is indeed through partnership that we can achieve a lot,” said Minister Harerimana.

Police is also in the final construction stages of three other regional headquarters in Musanze, Rubavu and Rwamagana for the Northern, Western and Eastern regions, respectively.

Governor Munyentwari hailed the Police for its continued partnership with all stakeholders and noted that such modern facilities reflect "improved and advanced policing services and public safety.”

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Celestin Twahirwa said structures are part of the Police infrastructure development programme.

"So far, the RNP general headquarters in Kacyiru and Kigali Metropolitan Police headquarters in Remera were also completed and construction of three other regional headquarters will be completed very soon. The next phase, after this, will be the construction of modern police stations,” ACP Twahirwa said.
