National football league side Amagaju FC have promoted Pablo Nduwimana from the assistant to head coach role, replacing Abdu ‘Beken’ Bizimana, who left the club toward the end of the just-concluded season. 

Bizimana dramatically resigned from his duties with only one game left to the end of the season, having extended his contract until 2018 only a few weeks earlier.

He cited club officials’ "failure to fulfill their responsibilities”.

In an interview with Times Sport yesterday, Amagaju FC vice president Jean Damascene Nkurunziza said that Nduwimana had been given a one-year renewable contract, and tasked to preserve the club’s status in the topflight division next season.

"The club have taken the decision to appoint Nduwimana as our head coach and we have assured him of our full support in a bid to turn around the club’s fortunes in the coming season, our top priority is to remain in the first division,” he said.

Southern Province-based Amagaju finished in the 13th position with 30 points, one point above the relegation zone.

According to Nkurunziza, the club are also set to overhaul the squad with view to signing new players to help the new coach achieve his goals.

"Now that we have a new coach, our focus will be strengthening the squad and we hope to renew the contracts of some players,” he said.

Nduwimana has been with the Nyamagabe-based side since 2012 when he joined them as a player before retiring in 2014 and was subsequently appointed assistant coach.
