National league side AS Kigali FC confirmed on Monday they had signed attacking midfielder Muhadjiri Hakizimana from Mukura Victory Sports, with club officials saying they were keen on bringing in more new faces to further strengthen the team.

Muhadjiri signed a two-year contract with his new club for an undisclosed fee.

The highly rated Rwanda international was out of contract with Mukura where he finished as the league’s joint top scorer last season, with 16 goals.

Twenty-two-year old Muhadjiri becomes the first signing for Eric Nshimiyimana’s side that finished fourth in the league with 56 points from 30 league matches.

The midfielder was Mukura’s most outstanding performer in the just concluded 2015/16 season, scoring 16 league goals propelling the Huye-based side to third position with 60 points.

"Muhadjiri is now officially our player and our first signing, we still want to sign more players to strengthen the team ahead of next season,” said AS Kigali team manager, Joseph Nshimiye. 

The City of Kigali-sponsored club have lost two of their key players recently, including start striker Ernest Sugira, who signed for Congolese side AS Vita Club and team captain Jean Pierre Akili Mabula, who joined Australia semi-professional side, Sydney Olympic FC.

According to Nshimiye, the club have started talks with former Rayon Sports forward Fuadi Ndayisenga, who’s currently a free agent after parting ways with Kenyan side Sofapaka FC.

Muhadjiri comes from a family of well-known footballers such as Amavubi and Young Africans (Tanzania) skipper Haruna Niyonzima, Abdul Sibomana, a former APR FC and Amavubi midfielder, and Député Singirankabo, a former Etincelles player.

For scoring 16 goals and leading Mukura to third place, Muhadjiri, a former Etincelles and SC Kiyovu player, is in the running for FERWAFA’s award of Best Player for the Season, along with Rayon Sports’ duo of Dominique Savio Nshuti and Pierrot Kwizera.
