Rwanda’s professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana was expected to fly out of the country last evening at 9:45pm aboard a Brussels Airline flight to the United States of America for a golf training course that slated for July 23 through August 23 in Denver, Colorado.

The 29-old will become the first Rwandan pro golfer to attend a golf training course, that’s fully sponsored by Denver-based Metagolf Learning Center, who are partners with Kigali Golf Club.

Speaking to Times Sport, Ruterana said the course will improve his game and help him achieve his dream of teaching golf to as many Rwandans as possible as the sport is one of the least popular sports disciplines in the country, largely due to a perception that it’s a rich-man’s game.

"This is a great opportunity not only for me but for the country as a whole because it will facilitate the development of the sport in Rwanda,” said Ruterana.

The training course comes as the construction of the state-of-the-art 18-hole luxurious Kigali Golf Club course nears the final stages.

The multi-million dollar project will contain a luxury hotel, tennis courts, squash and gym house and golf pro-shop. 

"A part from providing golf equipment, the pro-shop will also provide training to any individual willing to learn golf in Rwanda. We had no qualified person here who would offer that service; therefore, this training will provide me with the necessary knowledge,” Ruterana said.

Currently, there are five professional golfers in Rwanda, including Jean Baptiste Hakizimana, Ruterana, Ernest Ndayisenga, Olivier Munyaneza and Jules Dusabe.
