Volleyball league: UNIK close on winning second title

KIBUNGO UNIVERSITY (UNIK) are edging closer to the volleyball league title after winning three playoffs games on Sunday at Amahoro National Indoor Stadium.

KIBUNGO UNIVERSITY (UNIK) are edging closer to the volleyball league title after winning three playoffs games on Sunday at Amahoro National Indoor Stadium.

UNIK defeated IPRC South 3-0 (25-21, 27-25 and 25-22), the defending champions also beat Kirehe 3-0 (25-22, 25-21 and 25-22) before defeating former champions APR 3-2.

In other games APR beat IPRC South 3-1 25-22, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-13 but the military side struggled to beat Kirehe 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-8), thanks to the effort of Yves Mutabazi, captain Aimable Mutuyimana, and center Fabrice Nkezabahizi

With these three wins, UNIK top the table with 54 and they only need to win two games in the six remaining games to retain the league title. APR has 42 while Kirehe dropped to the third place with 41 points.

The playoffs will continue over the weekend when UNIK host the event in Ngoma District while the following weekend’s games will be hosted by Kirehe in Kirehe District.
