Handball league hopefuls APR overcame Ecole Secondaire Kigoma 45-41 in a tightly contested league game played on Saturday at Kigoma ground to reclaim top spot and keep title hopes alive.
Anaclet Bagirishya’s team return to the top of the league table standings with 37 points from 13 matches, one ahead their bitter rivals and two-time defending champions Police, who have played a game less.
Kigoma’s Alexis Nshimiyimana scored the game high 13 goals but it wasn’t enough to help his team to victory.
Ecole Secondaire Kigoma (29pts) and College Inyeramihigo (28pts) occupy third and fourth positions while University of Rwanda, College of Education are fifth with 23 points.
Groupe Scolaire Rambura and University of Rwanda, Huye Campus occupies the bottom two positions with 9 and 7points respectively.
With five games left, Police’s Gilbert Mutuyima is the league top scorer with 97 goals, followed by College Inyeramihigo’s Etienne Nizeyumukiza with 83 goals while Innocent Mwiseneza from UR College of Education has 82 goals, in the third place.
