Police warn of traffic disruptions at Airport Road

Due to the arrival of Heads of State and their delegations here for the African Union Summit, police and city authorities have warned that the the road stretching from Kanombe-Giporoso-Gisementi-Gishushu-Kimihurura-City Centre, otherwise known as the Airport Road, will be busy on Friday.

Due to the arrival of Heads of State and their delegations here for the African Union Summit, police and city authorities have warned that the the road stretching from Kanombe-Giporoso-Gisementi-Gishushu-Kimihurura-City Centre, otherwise known as the Airport Road, will be busy on Friday.

In a statement from Rwanda National Police, motorists, especially those commuting to and from the eastern part of the city, have been urged to use alternative routes to avoid the inconvenience.

The alternative routes include; Kanombe-Nyandungu-Kigali Parents-Kimironko/Mushumba Mwiza-Rwahama-Kibagabaga-Gacuriro-Utexrwa-Kinamba to City Centre, Nyabugogo or Poids Lourd to Gikondo.

The other route is Kanombe-Busanza-Kabeza-Niboye-Sonatube-Rwandex-Kanogo to Nyamirambo, City Centre or Kinamba, Kacyiru.

"These alternative routes are meant to control the expected heavy traffic flow and minimize inconveniences to road users. Police officers will be deployed along the road to facilitate and direct road users,” reads a statement signed by Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Celestin Twahirwa.

According to police, road users will be updated from time to time on any changes to facilitate easy traffic flow, or call a toll-free line (118) across all networks for any information.

Police has also set up a Twitter account (@RWTrafficUpdate) that will provide updates on regular basis.

At least 35 heads of state are expected here this weekend for 27th African Union Summit that started on last Sunday and it is being held at Kigali Convention Centre in Kimihurura.
