Algeria name FIBA U18 team for Kigali

With just seven days to the start of the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Championships to be held in Kigali, Algeria have named their team for the 10-day event. The continental youth flagship event will run from July 22-31 at Amahoro indoor stadium.

With just seven days to the start of the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Championships to be held in Kigali, Algeria have named their team for the 10-day event. The continental youth flagship event will run from July 22-31 at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Algerian coach Mohamed Abidat has selected a team with an average height of 1.92m. Among them are three youngsters who helped the North African nation claim third place at last year’s FIBA Africa U16 Championships in Bamako, Mali.

Abderrahmane Hailoug is set to take care of the boards, Mostefa Braik, 17 will be the shooting guard and will be joined by Islam Nizar Taleb and Mohamde Akram Sahbi.

Gabon were the last team to be awarded a wild card to take part in this year’s FIBA Africa U18 Championships – the announcement was made on Tuesday following a decision made by the FIBA Africa Board.

The championships will attract 12 teams representing the different continental zones. The qualified countries include; Angola, Algeria, Benin, DR Congo, Egypt, Mali, Cote d’Ivorie, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Gabon and hosts Rwanda.
