[LETTERS] Crime prevention: Parents' role is key

RE: "RNP target youth in crime prevention” (The New Times, June 20).

Thumbs up to Rwanda National Police! It is very true that if children are raised in a house with drug and alcohol issues, it is more likely they will have drug and alcohol related problems in their futures.

Also, if they are raised in an abusive household, there is a likelihood that it may shape their personality and process of growing up. However, if parents became exemplary to their children and neighbours, we would almost certainly have youth that are free from drug abuse, trafficking and related crimes.

It is good to start with the remote areas which are the most affected.
