A senior Burundian member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Hafsa Mossi, was Wednesday morning shot and killed near her home in Bujumbura by unknown gunmen.
The apparent assassination of Mossi, who has been the chairperson of Burundi’s EALA Chapter and former Burundian minister for East African Affairs, has left many in shock.
Many immediately took to Twitter to express their shock and grief.
Rwanda's Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo tweeted: "Grieving for my Burundian friend, Hafsa Mossi, just assassinated in Bujumbura! A good woman and dedicated politician. RIP sister!”
EAC Secretary General Libérat Mfumukeko tweeted: "Saddened at the death of my friend and colleague, Hon Hafsa Mossi. @Jumuiya has lost a tireless advocate.
Mossi was in Rwanda mid last year in a team that was part of EALA’s goodwill mission comprising its standing Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution, to visit and assess the situation in camps hosting Burundians refugees.
