Topflight promotion battle still open

The battle for promotion of second division clubs to the topflight is still wide open. It remains a close race as most of the clubs have a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals.

The battle for promotion of second division clubs to the topflight is still wide open.  It remains a close race as most of the clubs have a chance to qualify for the quarter-finals.

With just one round of games left to play in the regular season, a total of 12 clubs still have a chance of finishing in the top four slots in the two pools A and B. Each of the top seven teams from Pool A still have a chance to qualify.

Table leaders Vision FC were denied an early boost to qualify when they were beaten 1-0 by Hope FC to tie at the top with 37 points each while fourth-placed Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle with 33, points shared spoils with La Jeunesse in sixth place, two points behind.

Fifth-placed Sorwathe FC, with 35 points, defeated Gasabo United 3-0 while Gitikinyoni, in the 7th place with 31 points, beat eighth-placed Esperance 2-1 to remain in contention for the quarterfinals.

Likewise, in Pool B, leaders Etole de l’Est (46 points) and third-placed Pepiniere FC (42) played a goalless draw while Kirehe FC, in second place with 44 points, defeated Nyagatare FC 2-0.

Fourth-placed Interforce FC, on 41 points, settled for a 0-0 draw with Isonga FC, which remain 7th with 26 points. Miroplast, in second place with 39 points, overcame Akagera FC by 4-2 Sunday.
