Amavubiand Gor Mahia striker Jacques Tuyisenge has embraced the new partnership with his compatriot Meddie Kagere at the Kenya Premier League champions.

After six months without a club, former Rwanda international striker Kagere returned to Gor last month and signed a two-year contract which will keep him at the Nairobi-based club until 2018, reuniting with his former international teammate, Tuyisenge, who joined the club in February.

The duo played together at Rwanda Police FC between 2011 and 2012 before Kagere moved to KF Tirana in Albania and later to Gor Mahia in 2015.

However, after a successful season, the 29-year-old left the two-time KPL defending champions in December 2015 when his contract expired and the two parties failed to reach an agreement for a new deal. Gor signed Tuyisenge as a replacement for Kagere.

Kagere made his return to the pitch over the weekend pairing with Tuyisenge in attack and made a good start scoring the only goal as Gor Mahia dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz.

Speaking to the media after the game, Tuyisenge, who has made a quick impact in the Kenya Premier League, hailed his new partnership with Kagere.

"I have known Meddie for a long time, we played together at Police FC and Amavubi and we got along so well. He is an experienced striker and I believe if the coach decides to play both of us, we can do great things,” said Tuyisenge.

For his part, Kagere said, he feels at home and is ready to resume the fine form he displayed in 2015.

"I am very happy to be back because Gor is like home to me and the fans, players and officials have welcomed me. I am feeling ready to get back to the pitch and do what I do best, scoring goals. I know it will be difficult because I have stayed for six months without competitive football,” said Kagere.

Gor Mahia are currently in the second position with 30 points, five points behind leaders Tusker FC with 13 league games left to play.
