The Kenyan driver’s cause was further helped when his closest rival, Muna Singh Jr. of Zambia, bowed out of the rally, which was won by Tanzania’s Tufail Tufail, Farhaad Mustafa in a Subura Impreza.

Another Tanzanian, Dharam Pandya in a Mitsubishi Evo IX finished second, Uganda’s Jas Mangat finished 4th while Rwanda’s Christakis Fitidis and Eric Nzamwita in a Mitsubishi Evo X , who are registered under Ugandan license finished 9th.

Singh was the favourite to win the African Rally Championship classification race but suffered a puncture and later damaged his suspension in the opening stage.

The 21-year-old Zambian driver is yet to finish a rally in Tanzania as he dropped out on his debut last year as well. Singh remains on 50 points.  The next ARC event will head to Rwanda, in Gako for the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally scheduled for August 12-14.
