Rwanda’s Culture and Sports Minister Joseph Habineza yesterday paid tribute to Bralirwa for their consistent support to local sports. The youthful Minister made the remarks moments before officially teeing off the 13th Rwanda Open at Kigali Golf Club.
He said, "I would like to commend Bralirwa for the efforts they are doing to support golf and local sports in general.” He also expressed his delight in being part of the event and welcomed all foreign participants urging them to feel at home.
This year’s Rwanda Open amateur tournament also went down in Kigali Golf Club’s record books as the first event in the history of Rwandan golf to attract over 95 golfers.
Over the next two days, local golfers are in for a big test from Uganda’s sensational golfer Vincent ‘Alali’ Byamukama and the in-form Tanzanian captain Brayson Nyenza.
Tanzania has fielded eight golfers as they prepare for next week’s East African Challenge that will be held in Mombassa.
Bralirwa under their Mutzig brand are the lead sponsors of the four-day event which got underway on Thursday with the professional golfers’ competition.
Other sponsors include ORTPN, Rwanda Development Bank (BRD), Tele-10, Serena Group, Rwandair Express, AAR and Inyange. The tournament’s climax is set for Sunday.
