Defending National football champions, APR FC on Thursday retained their trophy after arch-rivals Rayon Sports slipped to a 1-0 loss to AS Muhanga at Muhanga Regional Stadium in the Southern Province.

Jean Bosco Akayezu scored the only goal in the 57th minute after Davis Kasirye and Pierrot Kwizera missed penalties for Rayon Sports in the first half.

The loss automatically handed APR FC the title.

Currently, APR,  who have just a match left to wrap up their season, are 10 points clear of the second-placed Rayon Sports who have two games in hand. Rayon Sports play bitter rivals Kiyovu FC on Sunday before travelling to Rusizi District to face Espoire FC for their last league game.

APR will return to action on the final match day of the season on July 16 when they will take on AS Kigali at Kigali Regional stadium.
