Rayon seek winning run as league returns

Aware that even a perfect run in their remaining four league matches may not be enough to beat overwhelming favourites APR FC to the title, Rayon Sports are eager to build on the form that saw them win this year’s Peace Cup on Monday – ironically at the expense of APR – when they return to league action today.

Aware that even a perfect run in their remaining four league matches may not be enough to beat overwhelming favourites APR FC to the title, Rayon Sports are eager to build on the form that saw them win this year’s Peace Cup on Monday – ironically at the expense of APR – when they return to league action today.

APR, who have just a match left to wrap up their season, are 10 points clear of the second-placed Rayon Sports who however have three games in hand.

Today, the newly crowned Peace Cup holders take on the already relegated AS Muhanga at Muhanga Regional Stadium.

Marines FC will host Mukura Victory Sports at Umuganda Stadium as the Rwanda premier football league contest returns with a plethora of games in the next few days.

"We have to keep a winning spirit. We need to win every match ahead and we want to improve in every game because we want to stay in the race for the title,” said Rayon interim head coach Djuma Masudi when asked how his side is prepared for a string of league games ahead.

On Sunday, his side will come up against traditional rivals SC Kiyovu at Mumena Stadium, while Police FC, who sacked head coach Andre Casa Mbugo last month, will entertain n Marines FC at Kicukiro Stadium.

Bugesera FC will be away to EtincelleS.

Then, on July 13, Rayon Sports will travel to Rusizi for a tricky encounter against this year’s Peace Cup second runner-ups Espoir FC.

APR will return to action on the final match day of the season on July 16 when they will take on AS Kigali.

APR FC lead the standings with 67 points from 29 matches.
