Residents raise 3m Rwf to buy vehicle

NYAMASHEKE — Residents of Bitaba Community settlement, Macuba sector in Nyamasheke district have raised over Rwf 3m towards the purchase of a community commercial vehicle. This was revealed by, the district Mayor during an exclusive interview with The New Times, on Wednesday.

Vincent Muragwa explained that the residents’ move is aimed at buying commuter taxis for income generation. He said that the residents meet every weekend and contribute Rwf 200 each towards the facility.

They will initially buy one vehicle and later buy another, according to the Mayor.

"Residents of Bitaba village want to buy commuters which will be working in the district. This is aimed at enabling them to become self reliant economically and socially,” the Mayor said.

He added that it is a good initiative and that the district will encourage residents in other Sectors of the district to emulate Bitaba residents.

Dancira Uwimana, one of the residents said, "Our fundraising drive towards the vehicle is primarily aimed at getting money that will be helping us in solving our daily problems without waiting for aid.”
