Rayon Sports have been crowned the 2016 Peace Cup champions after beating arch rivals APR FC 1-0 on Monday in the capital Kigali.
Malian Ismael Diarra scored the lone goal in stoppage time to send thousands of blues fans in a packed Amahoro National Stadium into a frenzy.
The win means that Rayon Sports will represent Rwanda in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The Peace or Amahoro Cup final is played on the occasion of the country’s Liberation Day.
Today, Rwandans inside and outside the country marked the 22nd Liberation Anniversary, which saw the Rwanda Patriotic Army, under the leadership of current President Paul Kagame, defeat the regime blamed for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of at least a million people.
