Gilbert Ndahayo is a pioneer in Rwanda’s film industry with his debut ‘Scars of My Days’. In March, this year, Ndahayo released a documentary called ‘Behind This Convent’, a hit in Hollywood, and it has earned him  recognition in the new African Cinema with Verona Award for the ‘Best African Feature Film and Signs Commendation’ during ZIFF 2008 at the Premiere of the film.

Ndahayo lives in America. I hardly differentiate between week and weekend days. Most hours of most days are spent working on my film projects.

Life here is different from how it is in Africa, or Rwanda to be specific. Here every minute counts. So, if one decides to invest time in unconstructive acts, at the end of it all they will be the loser.

Here, there is no day, or night. People work day and night! When time permits, I really like to hang out with my friends or go to a restaurant or bar on my own.

I also love cooking. And whenever I manage to steal time, I’ll make sure I get rid of the junk, or restaurant food. Also, sometimes, when I’m lucky enough, I cook and invite a few friends for lunch or dinner to my apartment.

Frankly, I’ll admit that most of my weekends are not that interesting; I no longer drink alcohol or go to nightclubs. But, this is an ideal for me, because I get enough time to concentrate on my projects with a sober mind!
