After six months without a club, former Rwanda international striker Meddie Kagere has returned to Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

Kagere signed a two-year contract which will keep him at the Nairobi-based club until 2018.

The 29-year-old Kagere left the two-time KPL defending champions in December 2015 when his initial contract expired and the two parties failed to reach an agreement for a new deal.

The development was confirmed by the Gor Mahia chairman, Ambrose Rachier on the club’s official website (www.gormahiafc.co.ke) that the Rwandan striker became part of the team on Thursday evening.

"Meddie Kagere will be part of the team starting today after agreeing to a two-year deal. We as Gor Mahia fraternity appreciate his return as he will add punch and value to our striking force,” said Rachier.

In his first season at the club, Kagere netted 23 goals in all competitions and formed what was the league’s most lethal attacking partnership with Kenyan Michael Olunga, to steer Gor Mahia to unbeaten league victory in addition to the KPL Top 8 title and the DSTV Super Cup.

His return will see a possible new striking pairing with fellow countryman, Jacques Tuyisenge who joined the Kenyan side in February this year after impressing for Amavubi during CHAN 2016.

The well-traveled and highly experienced Kagere has featured for several clubs such as Mbale Heroes (Uganda), Atraco FC, Police, Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu and Mukura Victory Sports (Rwanda) as well as Club Esperance (Tunisia) and FK Tirana (Albania).

At the international level, the 29-year-old forward made 30 appearances for Rwanda, scoring 10 goals in all competitions.
