Cycling Cup: Uwizeyimana wins Muhanga-Huye road race

Team Rwanda and Demission Data rider, Bonaventure Uwizeyimana dominated yesterday’s Road Race of the Cycling National Championship after clocking 2h and 52 minutes and 17 seconds in a distance of 111,3k from Muhanga to Huye.

Team Rwanda and Demission Data rider, Bonaventure Uwizeyimana dominated yesterday’s Road Race of the Cycling National Championship after clocking 2h and 52 minutes and 17 seconds in a distance of 111,3k from Muhanga to Huye.

The road race also included a Circuit (six laps) around Huye city center. The 23-year Uwinzeyimana took home Rfw100.000. In second place was his Dimension Data teammate, Adrien Niyonshuti.

Joseph Biziyaremye (2h53’17’’) and Gasore Hategeka (2h53’17’’) finished third and fourth respectively while veteran rider Abraham Ruhumuriza, completed the top five in a time of 2h53’18’’.

On Saturday, Uwizeyimana came on third place in Individual Time Trial in Nyamata, behind Niyonshuti and Valens Ndayisenga.

This year, Niyonshuti will wear the Time Trial champion jersey while Uwizeyimana is the top rider in the Road Race for 2016; replace Joseph Biziyaremye while Niyonshuti dethrones Ndayisenga.

Rene Ukiniwabo won the road race in junior category after he covered a total of 89.3km in 2h 12’ 46’’, and went home with Rfw50,000; while Jean D’Arc Girubuntu won the race in women’s race, a distance of 78.3km and got Rfw50,000. In U23 category Valens Ndayisenga dominated the race and he got Rfw60.000.

On Saturday, 29-year old Niyonshuti dominated the ‘Individual Time Trial’ in Nyamata after clocking 54’17’’ in distance of 40.6 km.

Niyonshuti was followed by last year winner, Ndayisenga after using 56’ 52’’; Uwizeyimana came on third place with time of 56’ 59’’. Ciney Elmay Joseph Biziyaremye came on fourth after using 57’ 29’’ while Les Amis Sportif de Rwamagana Ephraim Tuyishimire finished of fifth place after clocking 58’07’’.
