Amagaju FC shocked defending champions, Police FC in the 1/8 round of the Peace Cup match played on Wednesday at Kamena ground in Huye district.

The two teams settled for a goalless draw in normal time before Abdul ‘Becken’ Bizimana’s side prevailed 7-6 in post-match spot-kicks.

It was heart-break for Police coach Andre Casa Mbungo whose only chance to save  what has been a disappointing season, was to win the Peace Cup.

Amagaju’s reward for reaching the quarter-final is a date with Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali, who defeated Etincelles 1-0 at Muhanga Regional Stadium.

Elsewhere, strikers Bienvenue Mugenzi and Issa Bigirimana scored in second half to help APR come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against Bugesera FC at Kicukiro stadium.

Central defender Frank Makengo had put the Eastern Province side in the lead with a powerful header from a corner kick in the 41st minute.

But Mugenzi netted the equaliser with a header off a wonderful cross from Michel Rusheshangoga in the 60th minute before Bigirimana sealed the win for the military side three minutes later, heading home skipper Albert Ngabo’s cross.

APR FC will face SC Kiyovu, who beat Sunrise 1-0 in the early kickoff at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports beat Marines 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals where they will play against buoyant Gicumbi FC, which stunned Mukura Victory Sports 2-1. Burundian import Pierrot Kwizera netted a brace for Rayon Sports, in the 30th and 34th minutes, while Blaise Itangishaka scored the consolation goal for Marines.

The quarter-final round will be played on June 25, while the semi-final round will be held in a two-legged format on June 28 and July 1 with winners proceeding to the final which will be played on June 4.
