Rwandan duo off to a good start in Kenya Tennis Open

Rwandan tennis duo Ernest Habiyambere and Olivier Havugimana have registered a good start in the on-going Britam Kenya Open Championship that started on June 18 and will run until June 25 at Nairobi Tennis club courts.

Rwandan tennis duo Ernest Habiyambere and Olivier Havugimana have registered a good start in the on-going Britam Kenya Open Championship that started on June 18 and will run until June 25 at Nairobi Tennis club courts.

Making their debut appearance at the annual regional tournament in the men’s senior singles, the duo defeated Kenyans in the first round this morning to qualify for the second round that set for later today.

Rwanda’s number one, Habiyambere, beat Kenyan Peter Kihara in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to set up a second round meeting with Kenyan Derrick Ominde, who had a walk over in the first round after his opponent Sarma da Silva from Congo-Brazzaville did not show up.

Havugimana, Rwanda number two, defeated Kenyan Allan Saha 6-1, 7-5 to reach the second round and will face Albert Njogu, who defeated Uganda’s Simon Ayella in three sets; 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

The second round matches will be played later today at the Nairobi club court.
