Editor,

RE: "Are we giving too much freedom to varsity students?” (The New Times, June 15).

With respect to the genuine intent of the author to underscore that students need to learn self-discipline when they are away from home for the first time studying, it is disappointing, however, that the author (and a woman at that) "blames” women for the inability of males to have self-discipline when it comes to matters of sex because of the clothes they wear.

A woman should be allowed to wear whatever clothes she wishes, and by so doing it is NOT an invitation to any man that he can take liberties with her. If the woman wants to engage in such behaviour (and I am not condoning it), that is her choice; and if she does not, the man must always respect her choice.

Rwanda has the opportunity to lead the way in East Africa on this critical social issue. Let’s stop publishing articles that promote out-of-date anti-woman views. That is not what Rwanda stands for.
