Newly crowned national rally champion Davite Giancarlo is one of 150 drivers to be flagged off today as the famous Rallye de Condroz gets underway in Huy, Belgium.

Making his fifth appearance in the European race, the Italian-born driver will race with some of Europe’s top drivers in the three-day race which covers 811.29 km, with 275.02 competitive km split over 17 asphalt special stages.

Before flying to Belgium last week, Giancarlo who will be navigated by David Israel in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 said that he was targeting to finish the entire race.

"It’s obvious that if a driver can get through the entire race, he has more chances of finishing in a good position,” he said.

Last year, Giancarlo was in touching distance of the top twenty slots before his Mitsubishi suffered mechanical damage.

"It’s very unfortunate that I couldn’t finish the race but I think I drove my best race. I felt like I was going to have a good position before the car transmission broke,” he explained last week.

By the time he pulled out, he was 24th out of over 150 cars.
Giancarlo’s trip to Belgium was made possible after good sponsorship packages from  East African Cargo and Europe Car.

Rallye de Condroz is a legendary event in Belgium. It is also the final round on the Belgian Rally Championship.
