31 Senior Police students from ten African countries undertaking the fourth intake of the ‘Police Senior Command and Staff Course’ at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, yesterday concluded a week-long study tour to Ethiopia.

According to the Commandant of NPC, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye, who led the students, throughout the tour they managed to contextualize the theoretical knowledge acquired in class to realities on the ground.

On their last day of the tour, they visited ELSE textile factory and the Oromia Police College.

"At ELSE textile factory students were taken through the production and weaving process and explored how it contributes to socio-economic development of the region” said CP Namuhoranye.

The factory employs 1,100 employees and contributes significantly to social development through corporate social responsibility by providing tuition to children orphaned by HIV/Aids.

They also visited the Federal Police Commission of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa City Administration, Institute for Peace and Security Studies, Addis Ababa University and Bishoftu Automotive Car Assembly.

The students who are from, Burundi, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Namibia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Rwanda also spent time at the Oromia Police College that provides Basic Education Course, Professional Police courses, leadership courses, Cadet Course and specialized courses.

"Precisely, at the end of these two visits, students were equipped extensive knowledge of how investment is key in the development process of any country. In addition, the sustainable development can only be achieved when there is peace and security. Students also learnt of how law enforcement plays an important role in that process as long as its members are professional, hence the need for training,” said the commandant.
