Musanze, Rwamagana pull out of Peace Cup

National football league sides, Musanze FC and Rwamagana City have pulled out of the 2016 Peace Cup competition, which resumes on Sunday with the round of 16 matches.

National football league sides, Musanze FC and Rwamagana City have pulled out of  the 2016 Peace Cup competition, which resumes on Sunday with the round of 16 matches.

While confirming their withdrawal from the knockout competition, both teams cited financial constraints as the reason for their pulling out.

There would-be opponents, La Jeunesse and Amagaju FC will now progress to the 1/18th round of the competition due next week.  On Sunday, 14 matches will be played on different grounds around the country.

Reigning champions Police will open their title defence against second division side, Rugende FC at Mumena ground while last year’s beaten finalists, Rayon Sports, will also be up against second division outfit, Miroplast FC at Kicukiro stadium.

The winners of the 1/16th round will proceed to the 1/8th round which is due on June 22 with eventual winners booking places in the quarter final round which will be played on June 25.

The semi-final round will be held in a two-legged format on June 28 and July 1 with the winners proceeding to the final which will be played on June 4. The winner will represent Rwanda at next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
