The battle for this year’s national volleyball league title is between table leaders APR and the defending champions, University of Kibungo (UNIK), formerly INATEK, who meet today in the second round in Ngoma District.
UNIK host Sammy Mulinge’s APR and should visitors win the match, they will go seven points clear at the top of the table, but UNIK still have two games in hand. UNIK won the first leg at Amahoro indoor stadium in straight sets, 3-0.
APR will go into the game seeking to avoid a third defeat of the season, having also lost to Kirehe 3-0 while Dominique Ntawangundi’s UNIK, who have lost once this season against Kirehe 3-2, are biding to win a second title since their creation in 2009.
"Our aim is to win all our remaining games to stay on top, we know it is going to be hard against UNIK because they want to close the gap on us, and also they’ll be playing in-front of their fans,” Mulinge said.
APR has been boosted by the return of youngster Yves Mutabazi, who has been in Japan where he went for a special six-months training stint.
