A total of ten foreign teams; five in men’s category, three in the women’s category and two in the veterans category have confirmed participation in this year’s Gisembe memorial international tournament slated for June 17-19 at Amahoro indoor stadium.
A total of ten foreign teams; five in men’s category, three in the women’s category and two in the veterans category have confirmed participation in this year’s Gisembe memorial international tournament slated for June 17-19 at Amahoro indoor stadium.
The annual tournament has attracted teams from DR Congo, and Burundi.
They will be joined by local teams that qualified from the just concluded local edition.
Group A will see local edition champions Espoir lock horns with Boundess, Goma Bulls and IPRC Kigali, league title winners, Patriots are drawn in Group B along with PJB Goma, Dynamo and AMI BK while the women’s Group will feature Berco stars, PJB Goma local edition champions APR and Scandanavia.
The veterans group comprises of Espoir, United Generation Basketball all from Rwanda plus Bakolo and CSK from DR Congo.
Since last year, Rwanda Basketball Federation, in conjunction with Espoir Basketball Club, organises two Gisembe memorial tournaments; a local and regional event.
The annual tournament is held in memory of former Espoir player and Coach Emmanuel Ntarugera Gisembe, who was killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
