Editor,

RE: "Visual impairment has not denied Uwineza’s dreams” (The New Times, June 11).

At the outset, please allow me to appreciate the manner in which The New Times brings out the beauty of Rwanda by sharing touching stories with its readers.

The story of Emelyne Uwineza is both touching and beautiful.

Some years ago, while a diplomat from the Rwanda High Commission, New Delhi, was with me in Mumbai, we visited the Happy Home and School for the Blind. The High Commissioner was impressed with what he saw and later remarked to me: "Clarence, we must look at the possibility of having a similar institution in Rwanda.”

Reading Uwineza’s comments in your article, it is my firm belief that with the right inputs from the Government of Rwanda and other concerned agencies, the dream of the diplomat and Uwineza’s will not be an impossible dream.

At each international business forum held in the past, under the "Rwanda Calling” initiative, we strive to support or felicitate one or two Rwandan youth who have shown great fortitude and determination in their life despite all odds.

Uwineza is definitely one such individual and during Rwanda Calling 2016, which will be held on June 20 in Kigali, we would be delighted to appreciate her courage.

We would be very pleased to share more details about our International Business Forum with your newspaper on hearing from you.

Rwanda Calling will continue to inspire the youth of this great nation in their quest for excellence.
