It was one of those good evenings where you sit back and let the music take over after a long week of work as well as ups and downs of life.
For those who turned up at Kigali Serena Hotel on Saturday for the Jazz and Blues evening, it was an unforgettable experience with one of the newest bands in the country—the all-girl Chic Band announcing its arrival on the music scene.
"Rwanda made” as their manager John Bunyeshuli likes to call them; the girls took to the stage at exactly 9pm and did what they do best as they performed a myriad of songs of their favourite musicians such as Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera.
Though they perform other artiste’s songs, the girls proved that they know what they are doing, lightening up the evening for the jazz lovers.
The band is comprised of four Rwandan girls who go by the names Millie, Rose, Grace and Leanne, who are all highly talented with unique vocal abilities.
Millie was the first to come on stage looking every bit gracious and did a rendition of Whitney Houston’s Try it on my own, noting that the deceased singer remains her inspiration.
Throughout the evening, the fresh and energized girls performed soothing renditions of songs like Greatest love of all by Whitney Houston and God bless the child by Billie Holiday, among the many which captivated the audience.
"We are so delighted to see the turn up and how Rwandans are falling in love with jazz and blues music,” Millie said, on behalf of the group.
"We are more than encouraged to keep doing what we are doing. Our goal is to continue entertaining Rwandans and everyone else who attends our performances,” added Rose.
The show ended at midnight and the manager Bunyeshuli took to the stage and thanked the audience for the support and promised an even bigger performance from the band at the forthcoming Kigali Fashion Week due to take place on June 24 at Century Park Hotel.
