THE Uganda national women cricket team on Thursday visited Nyanza Genocide Memorial Site in Kicukiro District and paid tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The Ugandan team is in the country to play against hosts, Rwanda in this year’s Genocide memorial Twenty20 cricket tournament slated for today at the Kicukiro cricket ground.

The team, was led by team coach Habib Mugarula. "We are deeply touched after seeing and hearing the stories about what happened here in Rwanda,” said Mugarula.

The coach noted that it should be a lesson, not only to Rwandans but the entire world, to make sure that what happened in Rwanda 22 years ago never happens again.

"We should take on ideas that embrace human worth, respect and dignity to fellow humans, we should fight and end such ideologies that dehumanize people to the extent of killing,” he added.
