Bugesera FC head coach Ali Bizimungu has hailed his players after a resounding 3-0 win over league rivals Gicumbi FC in the national football league match played on Tuesday at Nyamata ground.

The win moved the Eastern Province-based side to 7th place on the table with 34 points, level with Gicumbi, who dropped to 8th position. After the match Bizimungu cautioned his players against any form of complacency in their remaining three league fixtures. Striker Abouba Nshimiyimana gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute before Michele ‘Barack’ Nduwimana netted a brace in the 38th and 72nd minute to seal the comfortable win for the newly promoted side.

However, the game kicked off 40 minutes late because the visitors had come without players’ licenses while the ambulance arrived at the ground late, which also contributed to drama as fans grew impatient.

"We started the season not pretty well but as the season progressed, we picked the rhythm and the team is looking good, our target was to finish in the top seven and here we’re, so it’s now about maintaining the momentum in the remaining fixtures,” Bizimungu told Times Sport.

Bugesera’s remaining games include ties against Etincelles FC (away) before hosting relegation threatened AS Muhanga and wind up their season with a visit to Mukura Victory Sports in Huye.

In a separate interview, Gicumbi head coach Emmanuel Ruremesha said that; "In the first place we thought Bugesera would be awarded free points, which affected my players mentally.”

"And while the game still went ahead despite the delay in kickoff, we had lost our concentration and the pitch condition too was another setback, we could not play our usual game,” noted the former Mukura tactician.

Elsewhere, AS Kigali defeated Etincelles 3-2 to remain in fourth place with 53 points while Etincelles are 10th with 28 points.

Bottom side AS Muhanga, who recently sacked former head coach Edouard Rutayisire and replaced him with former Rayon Sports coach Abdu Mbarushimana, shared spoils with Sunrise FC in a 1-1 draw. Muhanga remains bottom with 15 points while Sunrise sits in the 9th position with 32 points.
