Two Senior Police officers from Namibia Police Force, who are in the country for a week-long benchmarking tour, yesterday visited Rwanda National Police Headquarters (RNP).
Namibia’s head of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), G.M Du Toit and head of Training and Development Directorate paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza at his office in Kacyiru.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Celestin Twahirwa, RNP spokesperson, the visit is part of the existing cooperation between the two police institutions.
"Their visit is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in November last year between the two Police forces to boost and enhance cooperation in various policing fields,” ACP Twahirwa said.
"Through the agreement, the two law enforcement entities will undertake various exchange programmes, share best practices and learn from each other,” he added.
The two Namibian Police officers are interested to learn more from RNP’s anti-gender based violence policy and Isange One Stop Center as well as Police training programmes.
The officers are also expected to visit the National Police College, Police Training Schools and Criminal Investigation Department among others.
The visiting team was taken through various presentations to enlighten them on RNP organisation and policing activities.
Commissioner G.M Du Toit pointed out that they wish to borrow a leaf from RNP model of fighting GBV especially the Isange One stop Centre.
"We need to understand the organisation and management of your personnel to cope with various policing challenges," said Toit.
"We want to appreciate the transformation your force has gone through since its establishment in 2000 to this date, evidently there is tremendous achievement," he said.
Cooperation is one of the RNP's priorities in its pursuit for collective security in face of evolving security challenges backed by technological development.
