Christophe Bazivamo has been appointed Deputy Secretary General in charge of administration and finance of the East African Community (EAC), after he was fronted by the Government of Rwanda.

Bazivamo, who is hitherto one of the country’s representatives at the East African Legislative Assembly, will have to be sworn in by the Chairperson of the EAC Summit, before he can resume his new duties.

Confirming the news, Rwanda’s EAC Minister Valentine Rugwabiza told The New Times that recent council of Ministers endorsed Bazivamo, and that as soon as he takes oath, he will relinquish his current job.

The summit is currently chaired by President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania.

"The Government of Rwanda had nominated him for that post and the recent Council of the Ministers recommended the nomination;

"Normally it is the prerogative of the Heads of State summit to approve the appointment, but it won’t have to wait until the summit,” she said.

Currently the secretariat has four Deputy Secretary Generals who serve different dockets to include; productive and social sectors; planning and infrastructure; political federation and finance and administration.

Bazivamo has served in different ministerial offices in Rwanda including the lands, environment, forestry, water, and mines ministry, that of local government and has also served as minister for internal affairs.

He is also the current Vice President of the RPF/Inkotanyi, the ruling political organization in Rwanda.
