RE: "New Musanze hatchery to boost poultry farming” (The New Times, June 6).

This is a very good initiative and the proprietors should expect good returns. I still can’t believe we import chicks from the Netherlands.

That is really too much and the risks involved are high too.

I would also wonder: what is the current demand for both poultry meat and eggs in the country? This would give an idea of what is the missing gap.

These are projects that touch directly the lives of an ordinary citizen and bring them big returns every after two months of feeding them. It is up to the leaders in every district to mobilise the citizens on the economic importance of poultry farming and how to keep them to increase their income.

The significant importance of poultry farming is that keepers get natural fertilizers for their farms, they get eggs hence reduce or finish malnutrition at all, they sell eggs, meat, fertilizers and chicken and get millions of income on a monthly basis depending on the size and frequency of the produce.

They could feed home market, peripheral districts, the country at large and we get imports too. They get money and pay children school fees, build modern houses and eventually drive beautiful cars.

Rwandans should engage into such projects on a large scale. They pay off. In every project they do, they should get engaged fully, not half way. If you are keeping pigs you should do so professionally because it pays.

Small entrepreneurship projects pay off and are a source of employment to thousands, if not millions of people, who in turn support their families hence a major multiplier effect.

We see that around many parts of Africa. God bless Rwanda!
