Rwanda national women football team (She-Amavubi) will play a warm-up match against Tanzania’s Twiga Stars on June 16.

The match is part of activities to mark the 2016 African Union Summit, which will be held in Kigali from July 10-18.

The team is expected to be assembled soon to begin intensive preparations ahead of the proposed friendly tie.

The team has been coached by ASA Kigali trainer, Grace Nyinawumuntu.

The national women football team participated in the 2014 African Women Championship and eliminated Kenya in the first round of 2014 AFCON qualifiers but were thrashed by eight-time champions Nigeria on 12-1 aggregate in two legs. Since 2014 She Amavubi has not played international matches.

However, Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) is trying to prepare She-Amavubi for future international tournaments including the CECAFA women tourney, which will be held in Uganda in August.

Among initiatives in place to promote women football is talent detection among youngsters countrywide, developing national youth teams (U-15, U-17), and improving the senior team.
